There's a more casual, less authoritative way to ask someone to
refrain from doing something, and this time the te-form is not involved.
Previously I learned a similar concept:
この果物を食べてはいけません。
You must not eat this fruit.
The softer way to say this is with a negative plain form verb + でください.
この果物を食べないでください。
Please don't eat this fruit.
宿題を忘れないでください。
Please don't forget your homework.
そこに座らないでください。
Please don't sit there.
あさって店に来ないでください。
Please don't come to the store the day after tomorrow.
リーさんに電話しないでください。
Please don't call Lee-san.
